Aquaculture: Insect Course in Animal Nutrition

B2E COLAB PARTICIPATES IN EGAS MONIZ SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND SCIENCE TRAINING ON CIRCULAR ECONOMY

B2E – CoLAB for the Blue Bioeconomy, in partnership with the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, will develop an innovative short-term course titled “Circular Economy in Animal Nutrition – the use of insects in fish feed”. The training, lasting 8 hours, will take place in e-learning format during the month of May, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and is focused on sustainability and maximizing resources used in aquaculture.

Exploring the role of insects in converting waste into fish feed ingredients; identifying sustainable practices in insect production as feed ingredients in aquaculture; analyzing success stories and challenges in implementing circular economy in aquaculture nutrition are the objectives of the course “Circular Economy in Animal Nutrition – the use of insects in fish feed”.

Promoted by the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, the training will feature the participation of Ana Rita Ribeiro, Diana Bicho, Rute Moreira, and Tyanara Franco from the B2E CoLAB team, as well as Elisabete Matos, a professor at the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, and Daniel Murta, president of the InsectERA Executive Committee. With a theoretical-practical approach, in an online format, the course will take place on May 14, 16, 27, and 29, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

With 20 open slots, the target audience includes aquaculturists interested in adopting sustainable practices, professionals in the food industry seeking innovations in aquaculture nutrition, or students and researchers in aquaculture, marine biology, sustainability, animal production, veterinary medicine, agronomy, biomedical sciences, and related fields, as well as public policy managers and regulators involved in aquaculture and sustainability.

At the end of the course, assessment will be conducted through a project that encompasses the knowledge acquired throughout all modules. The course offers 1 ECT (European Credit Transfer System). Registration can be done on the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science website.

The course “Circular Economy in Animal Nutrition – the use of insects in fish feed” is part of the Mobilizing Agenda for InsectERA Business Innovation, framed within the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), bringing together players from across the value chain who aim to explore the potential of insects as a bioindustrial tool and bioindustrial solutions.
