Armona Fish Farms

Armona Fish Farms, the largest open sea aquaculture farm in Portugal, is the most recent associate of the B2E CoLAB. With a production area that includes two farms with almost 300 hectares, the project was born in 2019, through the expansion of Rota Grega’s business for aquaculture.

Rota Grega group is dedicated to the production and commercialization of sea products, such as fish and shellfish, fresh and frozen. In 2014, it created its own wholesale network that covers the entire national territory, with commercial infrastructures in Porto, Peniche, Lisbon, Olhão and Terceira.

Congelagos

Congelagos is one of the largest seafood transformation and freezing plant of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most technologically advanced fish processing plants in the world. Located in Lagos, Portugal, the company is positioned to export the highest quality seafood with a daily fish processing capacity of 300 tons and the ability to store 5,400 tons of frozen seafood.

EntoGreen

Did you know that 45% of agricultural production is wasted before reaching the consumer?

Our associate EntoGreen has this desire of contributing to the development of sustainable food, focusing on the development of biologically based technologies that use insects enabling the reuse of nutritional waste that occurs in the agri-food sector and reintroducing them into the food chain, as an answer to these challenges. 

Navia

NAVIA is a global software for water management entities that supports the whole activity associated with the human cycle of water use. A key associate linking technology and blue bioeconomy.

Safiestela – SEA EIGHT

With the motto “Better fish, Better business, Better world”, Safiestela Sustainable Aquafarming Investments, Lda. follows the Senegalese sole growth from the day they hatch until the fish is ready for your table. This is one of the reasons why it is allowed to say it produces a more sustainable and the best quality sole.

Savinor and Sorgal

Soja de Portugal

Soja de Portugal is a renowned entrepreneurial group in the agro-industrial sector, operating in the areas of Animal Nutrition, Poultry Production, and Collection, Treatment and Valorization of Animal Byproducts. Born in 1943, it encompasses some of the most relevant sector companies, such as Avicasal, Sorgal (owner of Sojagado, Sorgal Pet Food and Aquasoja) and Savinor (owner of Savinor and Savinor UTS), with these last two being B2E’s associates.

Besides its innovative and dynamic economic and entrepreneurial activity, Soja de Portugal is Social and Environmentally Responsible in all its procedures.

As a food retail market leader with a wide range of brands, and as an innovation and impact initiative maker, Sonae MC is our partner through Continente (hypermarket), Continente Modelo e Continente Bom dia (supermarket), Meu Super (franchising supermarkets), Bagga (cafeterias and restaurants), Go Natural (supermarket and healthy restaurants), Makenotes, note! (bookstore/stationary store), ZU (products and services for pets), Well’s (health, well being) and Dr. Well’s (dentist and aesthetic clinics). 

Sparos

SPAROS develops new products and nutritional solutions to meet the needs of the aquaculture and aquafeed sectors including industrial research services to support the development of feeds, additives, and novel ingredients for fish and shrimp, commercial feed products for niche markets (e.g. HATCHERY FEED and ZEBRAFEED), and virtual nutritional products, such as FEEDNETICSTM for feed benchmarking regarding effects on fish production, and FiT for customized feeding tables.

CIIMAR

An unavoidable associate in the blue bioeconomy sector, CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research is a leading research and advanced training institution of the University of Porto, working at the frontier of Ocean Knowledge and Innovation. With high-quality research, CIIMAR promotes technological development and sustainable use of the sea, and support public policies in the area of Marine and Environmental Sciences. 

CIIMAR provides innovative solutions and products responding to current economic and societal challenges, including new drugs and marine products for industrial and medicinal needs, sustainable fisheries, preservation of ecosystems services, aquaculture and Ocean Literacy.

ICBAS and FCUP

University of Porto

Two renowned institutions at the University of Porto (U.Porto), ICBAS – Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar and Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, are key B2E research associates. With 69 research units, U.Porto is responsible for more than 20% of the scientific papers annually indexed at ISI Web of Science, which makes the university the largest Science producer in Portugal.

ICVS 3Bs

University of Minho

The ICVS/3B’s Associate Laboratory of the University of Minho (UMinho) centers its activities in the Health Sciences, namely in Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, and in Biomedical Science & Engineering/Materials Science & Engineering (Biomaterials). This Health-Sciences/Technologies interface pursues the goal of generating value through the development of innovative products and services, resulting in internationally highly competitive research. In recent years, UMinho contributed 9% to the Portuguese scientific production in Scopus and 8% in ISI WoS, registering a growth average of around 15%, above the national average of 11%.

INESC TEC 

INESC TEC – Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science is an Associate Laboratory with over three decades of experience in R&D and technology transfer. 

INESC TEC was created to act as an interface between the academic world, the world of industry and services and the public administration, applying the knowledge and results generated as part of fundamental research in technology transfer projects, always guaranteeing added and immediate social relevance. Always looking at the international and national market, INESC TEC is a key player to modernize the blue bioeconomy sector.

Sea Economy Sea Cluster

The Portuguese Maritime Cluster Fórum Oceano – Association for the Sea Economy is a private non-profit corporate body whose main goal is to boost the Sea Cluster by promoting cooperation among scientific institutions, enterprises and associations related to the many branches and activities, whose final functional area is the Sea.
