  1. Analysis and sorting in aquaculture

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-storage media, for sorting fish in aquaculture. In some implementations, one or more images are obtained of a particular fish within a population of fish. Based on one or more images of the fish, a data element is determined. The data element can include a first value that reflects a physical characteristic of the particular fish, and a second value that reflects a condition factor of the particular fish. Based on the data element, the fish is classified as a member of a particular subpopulation of the population of fish. An actuator of an automated fish sorter is controlled based on classifying the particular fish as a member of the particular subpopulation of the population of fish.

  1. Immune-enhanced Aquaculture

Aquaculture systems and methods are provided, as well as immunogenic compositions and methods of immunologically protecting bivalves against specified pathogens. Methods include inactivating specified pathogens using UV (ultraviolet) radiation, exposing invertebrates grown or to be grown in aquaculture to the specified UV-inactivated pathogens to enhance an immune reaction of the exposed invertebrates toward the specified pathogens, and growing the exposed invertebrates in aquaculture. For example, the methods were demonstrated to increase the immune response of oysters to ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) following their prior exposure to UV-inactivated OsHV-1.

  1. New technology shown to reduce nitrites in RAS without biofilters

The patented electrocoagulation (EC) technology has proven its ability to remove ammonia within a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) before it converts to nitrites. The NaturalShrimp technical team has now discovered that the EC system could also reduce nitrites without the need for a biofilter in RAS that might experience a build-up of nitrites.

Marine Biotechnology

  1. Application of sulfated polysaccharides against novel coronavirus

An application of sulfated polysaccharides against the novel coronavirus. Sea cucumber polysaccharides, fucoidan, or carrageenan have been confirmed to be capable of binding to the S protein on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, preventing the cell membrane of body cells from adsorbing or internalising the SARS-CoV-2 virus, thereby preventing the SARS-CoV-2 virus from infecting the body cells, indicating that sea cucumber polysaccharides, fucoidan, or carrageenan have the effect of preventing or treating pneumonia caused by novel coronavirus.
