OCEAN CONNECTORS

In the universe of the blue bioeconomy, Sparos emerges as a pioneering SME, shaping the course of aquaculture with innovative solutions and cutting-edge products. With a solid scientific foundation in fish nutrition and decades of experience, Sparos, one of the B2E CoLAB’s associated companies, envisions a sustainable future as it develops cutting-edge microfeeds and the revolutionary FEEDNETICS™ software. The Ocean Connectors section dedicates five questions to Luís Conceição, founder and CEO of Sparos.

What are the main results of Sparos’ work in the field of the blue bioeconomy?

Sparos is a pioneering SME, specializing in the development of cutting-edge products and customized nutritional solutions for the aquaculture industry. Based on extensive scientific experience in fish nutrition and aquaculture, SPAROS combines innovative technologies with a flexible pilot-scale feeding platform and a microfeed production line. Over the years, Sparos has led numerous research and development efforts, developing cutting-edge microfeeds (the Hatchery Feeds line) and producing tools such as the FEEDNETICS™ software to predict fish growth, the environmental impact of feed, and the biochemical composition of fish.

A project in the field of the blue bioeconomy that you have participated in and are proud of.

We are particularly proud to have produced the FEEDNETICS™ software to predict fish growth, the environmental impact of feed, and the biochemical composition of fish. We believe that this software and its future competitors will be the cornerstone of precision feeding in fish farming in the near future.

A project or idea you would like to implement in the blue bioeconomy?

At Sparos, we would like to implement a rapid service based on omics technologies to assess the nutritional and health status of fish in laboratory tests and also on fish farms. We are working towards this.

How do you envision the blue bioeconomy in 30 years?

We hope it has transformed into a sustainable sector that simultaneously addresses the challenges of economic growth and well-paid jobs, with minimal environmental costs. At Sparos, we work every day to contribute to this, expanding the knowledge base and providing practical solutions for precision fish feeding.

What is the importance of the work done by B2E CoLAB?

It is very important to create synergies between its partners and also with other stakeholders. Its work as the main communication center in the field of the blue bioeconomy and with society in general is noteworthy.
