In an event dedicated to exploring how Artificial Intelligence is transforming the blue economy, this special session takes a different approach: science explained through humour, rigour and proximity. The ambition is clear: to talk about technology, ocean and future in an accessible, critical and memorable way.
This moment is part of the programme of Blue Wink-E 2026 | Ocean AI Futures, taking place on 20 March 2026, at the Porto Cruise Terminal, in Matosinhos, bringing together decision-makers, researchers, companies and innovators to discuss the role of AI in reshaping ocean-related sectors.
With a background in Marine Biology and a strong attraction to communication and comedy, João Cruz began his journey into stand-up after joining the collective Cientistas de Pé, using humour as a tool for science communication. Since then, he has continued to explore this communicational path, producing tailored content for events in Portugal and abroad.
His interest in the stage also led him to Improvisational Theatre, which he uses as a tool for collaboration and teamwork, reinforcing the human dimension of science and innovation.
Science at the heart of training
João Cruz’s professional path sits at the intersection of science, management and sustainability. At Blue Wink-E 2026, he challenges us to dive “underwater with AI”, combining storytelling, comedy and science to raise new questions about the role of Artificial Intelligence in the ocean, sustainability and the way knowledge is communicated.
Because in an increasingly technological future, understanding, questioning and laughing are also part of innovation.
Registration for the event is free but mandatory and must be completed online.
