The National strategy for the Valorization of co-products for the Marine

What is it about?

As a leading institution in the field of ocean science and technological innovation Roadmap4MarineCoproducts it was a project led by the B2E CoLABwith the aim of to identify the key challenges and opportunities in the field of valorisation of co-products for the marine, in Portugal. Inspired by the rich experiences of the Norway and Icelandthe project sought to adapt it and apply it business models, technologies, and practices of the circular economy in the domestic context, with a focus on the bio-based economy is in blue.

The project was funded by the EEA Grantsin the context of a Bilateral Initiativeand it took place between From January 1 to December 31, 2023.

Why is that?

  • The exploitation of resources, under-utilized: To transform the waste into a value-economic, and environmental issues.
  • International learning:Adaptation of the best practices of the countries leading in the industry.
  • Strategic planning: The establishment of a national vision for the future of the recovery of co-products.
  • The promotion of the circular economy:Reduction of waste and increase efficiency in the field of aquaculture and fisheries.

Goals

  • To identify them co-products that are generated by the activities of the bio-based economy, blue in Portugal.
  • To develop a strategic roadmap of the national for the recovery of co-products for the marine.
  • Build new business models, value chains, technologies, and processes tailored to the sector.
  • Implement the practices of the circular economybased on the experiences of Norway and Iceland.
  • To promote the the exchange of knowledge through site visits and meetings with international partners.
