Continuing our mission to promote Ocean Literacy for all audiences and global collaboration, B2E has just signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Acqua Matter, an international organization based in Brazil that develops multidisciplinary projects to reconnect us with the Ocean through all its waters.
The main objective of this collaboration will be to explore potential activities that engage the public in literacy issues, supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 2 Zero Hunger, SDG 13 Climate Action, and SDG 14 Life Below Water. See B2E’s commitment to the SDGs here.
Acqua Mater (Latin for Mother Water) is an international organization that develops artistic, educational, and social projects through partnerships. Its goal is to “share the knowledge that reconnects us with the origins of life and revitalizes our relationship with WATER.”
Founded by Patrícia Furtado de Almeida, who has a background in performing arts, the association offers “communications” at all possible levels, from teaching to public speaking, translation, and interpretation. Acqua Mater actively collaborates with international institutions such as UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and the Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and Patrícia Furtado de Almeida has been a speaker at important events such as the 2022 UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon and COP27 in Egypt.
B2E has a strong communication and dissemination activity, having created three campaigns focused on sustainable fish consumption: “Oh No! It’s a Myth After All!“ which debunks the myths of aquaculture with scientifically based data and facts, ”The 10 Commandments of Fish,“ a digital guide to help consumers choose the best fish according to environmental and economic sustainability criteria and health and nutritional aspects, and ”The ABCs of Aquaculture” aimed at school-age children.
CoLAB now adds Acqua Mater to a list of institutions and collaborative networks, such as the Iceland Ocean Cluster, EU4Ocean, and RISE UP (detailed information available here).
