B2E – Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB (B2E CoLAB) launches the challenge “From Sea to Dish – Intelligent Traceability for a Sustainable Ocean” in the Portuguese edition of Ocean Hackathon® 2025, which takes place from October 17 to 19 in Peniche. For 48 hours, multidisciplinary teams will create digital solutions to make fish traceability more transparent and sustainable. Registration is now open.

The challenge proposed by B2E CoLAB aims to create a digital prototype that allows consumers and professionals in the food value chain to know the complete journey of fish, from catch to plate. The solution should integrate data on environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and nutritional information, presenting it in a clear and accessible way. This international event will bring together multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for the oceans.

Challenge participants will be invited to design an intuitive and engaging prototype—whether it be an app, website, QR code system, digital panel, or other innovative solution—that reveals the entire journey of fish, from catch to plate. The winner from each city will be selected to present their project at the international final, which will take place in Brest, France, in December 2025.

Ocean Hackathon® 2025 is officially supported by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (UN Ocean Decade). This global initiative aims to promote ocean science for a sustainable ocean and is coordinated by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.

The Portuguese edition is organized by the Peniche Hub of the Blue Hub Network – Smart Ocean, together with the European Union co-funded project “Blue Bio Techpreneurs.”

Registration for Ocean Hackathon® 2025 in Peniche is open until October 15. Interested teams can register through the event’s official website.

This event represents a unique opportunity for professionals, students, and researchers to collaborate on developing innovative solutions to ocean challenges, aligning with B2E CoLAB’s sustainability and innovation goals.
