In partnership with Matosinhos City Council, B2E CoLAB for the Blue Bioeconomy organized a World Café on Thursday, September 26, bringing together more than 20 experts and leaders from various sectors linked to the blue economy. The event resulted in the proposal of more than 60 actions to boost the sustainable development of the blue economy and strengthen the link between science, industry, and society in the municipality of Matosinhos.

The World Café “How to boost the Blue Economy in Matosinhos” featured discussion tables dedicated to topics such as Economic Development, Blue Biotechnology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Maritime Transport and Ports, and Education and Community Awareness. Over the course of an afternoon, participants shared ideas and strategies for addressing the challenges facing different areas.

Matosinhos City Councilor Marta Pontes emphasizes the importance of this event for the municipality: “Matosinhos has an intrinsic connection to the sea, and our commitment is to ensure that the future of our blue economy is sustainable and innovative. This World Café, in partnership with B2E CoLAB, was a unique opportunity for the community and experts to work together to define concrete actions that will have a positive long-term impact.”

Maria Coelho, coordinator of B2E CoLAB, highlights the value of this partnership and collaboration between different sectors: “This event reinforces the importance of creating synergies between science, business, and public policy. The actions reflect opinions on the challenges and opportunities in the sector and will guide our work in the coming years.”

The event took place at the Sea Porto Hotel and the results will be announced shortly.
