Maria Coelho, coordinator of B2E CoLAB, is the author of a new article published in TecnoAlimentar magazine, in which she reflects on the challenges and opportunities associated with reducing fresh fish waste.

The publication is part of B2E CoLAB’s mission to promote the sustainable use of marine resources, with a special focus on reducing losses throughout the fish value chain and adding value to marine co-products. This approach is central to the ecological and digital transition of the blue economy, in line with the Blue Bioeconomy Pact and the investments of the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan.

B2E CoLAB has been developing structural projects in this area, such as the Roadmap for Marine Co-products, funded by EEA Grants. Also noteworthy is the creation of the Fish Matter platform, a digital tool that aggregates technical and scientific knowledge about marine co-products, promoting their valorization in sectors such as food, cosmetics, health, and agriculture.

Active participation in technical publications such as this one reinforces B2E CoLAB’s role as a mobilizing agent for the blue bioeconomy, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and the construction of solutions that link science, innovation, and sustainability.
