The coordinator of B2E – Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB, Maria Coelho, was the keynote speaker at the seminar “Innovating for Climate and Oceans: Reflections and Real-World Impact,” held on November 12. The event was part of the Blue Educational Series, an initiative promoted by Splash EU in collaboration with MARE – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences, the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Coimbra, and MindMeUp L.P., with the support of the EU4Ocean Coalition.

With an agenda focused on climate urgency, sustainable transition, and the transformative power of innovation, the seminar brought together international experts who reflect different approaches to addressing environmental challenges, from public policy and citizen mobilization to technological solutions implemented in real-world contexts.

A strategic vision for blue transformation

Maria Coelho participated as a keynote speaker alongside Stella Schaller, co-founder of Reinventing Society, who opened the session with an inspiring talk entitled “Reinventing Society: Empowering People for Transformative Change.” Maria Coelho’s speech reinforced the importance of the blue bioeconomy as a driver of sustainable innovation, highlighting the role of B2E CoLAB in creating solutions that connect science, industry, and the market.

“The transformation needed to respond to climate change does not depend solely on technology: it requires collaboration, strategic vision, and the ability to mobilize entire sectors towards new models of production and consumption. The blue bioeconomy is at the heart of this change,” said Maria Coelho.

Maria Coelho’s presence reinforces the role of B2E CoLAB as a catalyst for the blue bioeconomy in Portugal, promoting the link between scientific knowledge, applied innovation, and the development of new sustainable markets.
