The Fish Matter project, developed within the framework of the Blue Bioeconomy Pact (BBP), a mobilizing agenda funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), which focuses on the circular economy and sustainable innovation, was featured in an article in the renowned magazine Smart Cities. This initiative presents creative and differentiating solutions for the reuse of waste from the fishing industry, converting leftover fish into new foods and high-value cosmetic products.
With a strong commitment to sustainability and waste reduction, Fish Matter, led by B2E CoLAB, is an example of how the circular economy can drive more responsible, environmentally friendly businesses with an innovative vision for the future of the planet. The Smart Cities magazine highlighted the positive impact of this project, underlining its importance for the future of smart and increasingly sustainable cities, and also calling for a more informed and educated community regarding the bioeconomy and the blue economy.
“This project arises from an imminent need, not only in Portugal but also in Europe, to combat the waste of marine by-products. There are incredible things that can already be done, such as the extraction of enzymes and very specific factors, which can then be used in cosmetics or pharmaceuticals, for example. Our aim is to kickstart all these possibilities” – Maria Coelho, coordinator of B2E CoLAB.
