Congelagos, one of the largest fish processing and freezing units of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most technologically advanced fish processing units in the world, is the 15th member of B2E. Located in Lagos, Portugal, the company is positioned to export the highest quality fish. Congelagos has the capacity to calibrate, process and freeze 300 tons of fish daily and to store 5,400 tons of frozen fish.

The company’s addition was unanimously approved at the B2E CoLAB General Assembly on May 23.

“Congelagos’ premise is that fishing is only sustainable if it protects the sea, supports fishermen, meets the needs of the community and meets market demand,” explains the company on its website, also highlighting its promise to stabilize prices for fishermen.

The core values of Congelagos products are “the best fish, caught in the Atlantic waters of Portugal”, “responsible fishing” by “the best professionals”, “quality assured through the processes and technologies of one of the most advanced fish processing and freezing factories in the world”, “year-round delivery without loss of quality and in close relationship with the customer”, “transparency” and “sustainability”.

Congelagos products include mackerel, horse mackerel, black horse mackerel, octopus, sardine, boga, greenfish and cuttlefish.

Recently, Congelagos and GoParity – Impact Investing joined forces to launch the “Decarbonize Congelagos” campaign to build a 913 kW photovoltaic plant in Lagos. This is the largest solar energy project in GoParity’s history and a major step in the national fishing sector, in an international scenario that reveals the urgency and need for clean energy alternatives.
