The European commission has launched a new campaign at the level of the European Union to promote sustainable aquaculturehighlighting the dedication of the european manufacturers, and on the benefits of this activity for the local economy.
The campaign, titled “Aquaculture in the EU. We have worked with passion“, will take place over the next three months, and aims to increase domestic production and reduce dependence on imports and boost local economies.
The initiative highlights the nine types of: mussels, trout, clams, sea bream, oysters, carp, salmon, sea bass, and seaweed. Through videos, educational content, and visits to aquaculture sites across the EU, the campaign offers an immersive “farm-to-table” experience.
The campaign comes at a time when EU aquaculture production has remained stable since 2018, despite global growth. Among the main obstacles to the growth of aquaculture in the EU are the lack of social acceptance for new aquaculture sites and insufficient awareness of the importance and benefits of this activity for European citizens.
With this initiative, the European Commission intends to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable aquaculture, boosting confidence in European aquaculture products and promoting sustainable practices that benefit both consumers and the environment.
