Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB and Conservas Pinhais are pursuing new prospective collaborations, aiming to explore potential synergies between both entities. Recently, a B2E team visited Conservas Pinhais’ facilities, including the new Conservas Pinhais Factory Tour Museum, learning about the entire production process and data related to co-products, and presenting B2E’s activities and our service portfolio.
B2E is collecting information on various blue bioeconomy industries as part of our internal projects. In addition to promoting aquaculture products to the public with two launched campaigns (“Oh No! It’s a myth!” and “The 10 Commandments of Shellfish”), our team is also working on the projects “Mapping of marine co-products” and “Intelligent assessment of living marine resources – Mapping of R&D&I infrastructure”.
Pinhais was founded in 1920, “remaining faithful to a traditional production method that guarantees the highest quality and flavor of its products,” as highlighted on the company’s website. With over 100 employees, it produces approximately four million cans per day. 95% of this production is destined for 27 markets around the world.
According to the National Association of Fish Canning Industries (ANICP), the canning industry is expected to register remarkable growth in the coming years: double-digit growth expectations. In fact, last year’s results already confirm this trend: demand for these products increased by 16%, with 72,000 tons produced, 11,000 more than in 2019, equivalent to 365 million euros, 40 million more than the previous year.
