B2E CoLAB was invited to join the Hub Azul Acceleration Program — one of Portugal’s most ambitious ocean innovation initiatives — as a specialist partner in methodological rigour and pilot validation.

The program, promoted by Rede Hub Azul Portugal, supports the development, validation and scaling of innovative blue economy solutions, placing them directly in real operational environments. Co-funded by the European Union, it operates across four hubs — Peniche, Olhão, Aveiro and Oeiras Mar — and brings together, this year, 17 startups tackling concrete challenges in aquaculture, fisheries and marine technology.

B2E CoLAB’s involvement in the program unfolds across two complementary tracks. As a mentor, B2E CoLAB is already working directly with a selected group of startups, providing strategic guidance on business development, market access and go-to-market strategy. The goal is clear: to help these teams move from pilot stage to market faster and with greater clarity.

The second moment of intervention will be a masterclass on “Validation Protocols and Metrics”, where B2E CoLAB will cover how to structure a robust testing plan, define baselines and measurable targets, and ensure scientific rigour in data collection within a pilot context. A critical topic for startups confronting their solutions with the operational reality of the market for the first time.

From the bench to the market, backed by data

The Hub Azul Acceleration Program is structured around dedicated acceleration sessions focused on developing real pilots with partners from the Hub Azul ecosystem, supported by specialist mentoring across business development, market access, commercial validation and go-to-market strategy.

This is precisely where B2E CoLAB’s contribution becomes decisive. In a program where the credibility of results is each project’s most valuable asset, knowing how to design a rigorous validation protocol and communicate metrics with scientific clarity can be the difference between a compelling pilot and a missed opportunity.
