B2E – Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB was recently appointed to join the Local Monitoring Council for the Municipal Climate Action Plan (PAC) of Matosinhos, as the representative entity of the Advisory Council for the Economy of the Matosinhos City Council. This role reinforces B2E CoLAB’s commitment to the Municipality of Matosinhos and to sustainability and climate action in the region.

The proposal, which was unanimously approved, came from Marta Pontes, Councilor for Economic Activities at Matosinhos City Council, and was presented at the Matosinhos Economic Advisory Council.

The Local PAC Monitoring Council is a participatory body that brings together local entities representing the public, private, and civil society sectors, with the aim of monitoring, analyzing, and proposing measures within the scope of the implementation of the Matosinhos Municipal Climate Action Plan. This plan defines strategies and goals for climate change mitigation and adaptation, promoting a fair and sustainable energy transition at the municipal level.

“We accept this challenge with a great sense of responsibility. We believe that the blue bioeconomy has a crucial role to play in responding to climate change, through nature-based solutions such as blue carbon sequestration, but also in enhancing marine and coastal resources. We are motivated to contribute our technical knowledge and promote synergies with other agents in the territory,” emphasizes Maria Coelho, coordinator of B2E CoLAB.

She also reinforces the importance of collaboration and concerted action: “Combating climate change requires coordinated action and innovation. Being part of this Council is also an opportunity to connect science, innovation, and public policy at the local level, with a real impact on communities.”
