The B2E CoLAB for the Blue Bioeconomy will be present at the 1st National Conference of Ocean Literacy, an event that brings together experts, researchers, and change agents to reflect on innovative strategies for raising awareness and engaging the public in ocean protection. Promoted by Ciência Viva in partnership with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science, the conference will take place at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon on December 5 and 6, marking a milestone in the promotion of ocean literacy in Portugal.

The participation of the B2E CoLAB reinforces its commitment to positioning knowledge and appreciation of marine resources as pillars of a more conscious and responsible society. Through innovative approaches, B2E CoLAB has been investing in actions related to ocean literacy that aim to mobilize citizens and communities, promoting a closer and more informed relationship with the sea.

At this meeting, B2E CoLAB will be represented by Patrícia Gonçalves, Communications and Marketing Manager, who will participate in the roundtable discussion. “Literacy and Citizenship/Social Activism”, starting at 4:30 p.m., where he will highlight the fundamental role of ocean literacy in educating citizens to be more environmentally conscious and responsible. The discussion will focus on ocean literacy as a powerful tool for promoting active citizenship and encouraging social activism in favor of protecting marine resources.

The 1st National Conference of Ocean Literacy comes at a crucial moment to raise awareness among citizens and organizations about the interdependent relationship between humans and the ocean. The goal is to encourage informed and responsible attitudes toward marine resources, promoting actions that foster collective involvement in learning about, understanding, and protecting the seas.

The project is an initiative led by the Live Science, the National Agency for Scientific Culture, which operates a network of 20 Science Centers spread throughout the country. Its mission is to bring science and society closer together by promoting scientific and technological culture among researchers, citizens, students, teachers, young people, and adults.

The event is also aligned with the objectives of The National committee for the Ocean Decade, which leads Portugal's efforts to achieve the global goals of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science.
