B2E CoLAB attends event on the sustainable future of fisheries

On the 4th and 5th of December 2024, in the auditorium of the IPMA, in Oeiras, will take place the event Sustainable Fisheries and the Future of Blue Food is in the North Atlantic”.

Arranged by The National committee for the Ocean Decade (CNDO) in co-operation with the IPMA and Docapescathe meeting brings together experts and decision-makers in the debate on innovation and sustainability, the department of fisheries and aquaculture. On the second day Ana Rita Ribeiro, Project and Innovation Manager at B2E CoLAB, will participate in the panel “Valuing fish products, from 12:10 to 13:00, where it will present essential contributions to the future of the blue bioeconomy.

The presence of B2E CoLAB in this prestigious event reflects their commitment to the promotion of sustainable practices, and innovations in science in the value chain of fisheries, aquaculture and processing. Rita Ribeiro will bring to discussion the topic to take full advantage of the fish, a notion that is increasingly important for the sustainability of marine life. This approach not only aims to reduce the amount of waste, but also the amount of by-products usually thrown away.

The recovery of by-products, such as oils, proteins, and bioactive compounds, is a a strategy that combines sustainability, and innovation, contributing to multiple industries, from food to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. This approach demonstrates how the application of science and technology can transform waste into valuable resources, promoting a more circular and efficient economic model.

In the context of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), this event plays a crucial role in addressing the challenge of making oceans more productive and sustainable. The session “Fish Industry”, which will feature the participation by Rita Ribeirothis will be a chance to discuss concrete solutions and share experiences that could shape the future the blue food industry.
