The Circular Economy Pact in the Centre Region now includes B2E – Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB, strengthening a regional commitment that enters its third edition in 2026/2027 and brings together more than 200 public and private organisations dedicated to the transition towards a more circular economy in Portugal. As part of this membership, B2E CoLAB will implement an action focused on the valorisation of co-products and the promotion of circular business models within the blue bioeconomy.

The formalisation of the Circular Economy Pact in the Centre Region took place on 22 January in Condeixa-a-Nova, involving companies, business associations, higher education institutions, municipalities, intermunicipal communities and social economy organisations, in a collective effort to promote sustainable practices, cross-sector cooperation and the creation of new value chains.

Promoted by the Centre Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Centro), the Pact is part of the Centre Region Circular Economy Agenda and challenges each signatory organisation to implement at least one action aligned with strategic areas such as research and innovation, digitalisation, education and skills development, or sustainable production and efficient use of resources.

Within this framework, B2E CoLAB will develop the action “Capacity-building workshop and onboarding to the FishMatter platform for the valorisation of blue bioeconomy co-products”, targeted at companies and research organisations in the Centre Region. The initiative aims to promote the valorisation of fish co-products (such as bones, heads and skins), the creation of industrial symbioses, and the development of circular business models in the blue bioeconomy.

The workshop will include the presentation and demonstration of the digital platform FishMatter, currently being developed by B2E CoLAB under the Blue Bioeconomy Pact (PBA) and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The platform is designed to support the identification, matching and valorisation of fish co-product streams, fostering circularity across sectors and creating new sustainable economic opportunities.

The Circular Economy Pact in the Centre Region is aligned with national and European priorities for the green transition and foresees that each signatory implements at least one action within Communities of Practice such as Research and Innovation, Digitalisation, Education and Skills, or Sustainable Production and Efficient Use of Resources.

Joana Tomé, from B2E CoLAB’s innovation management and business development team, attended the formalisation ceremony.

With this integration, B2E CoLAB reinforces its position as an interface between science, industry and territory, contributing to accelerate the deployment of circular economy solutions in the blue bioeconomy and to the sustainable valorisation of marine and bio-based resources.
