On December 4 and 5, 2024, the IPMA auditorium in Algés will host the international event “Sustainable Fisheries and Future Blue Food in the North Atlantic.”
Organized by the Comité Nacional para a Década do Oceano (CNDO), in collaboration with IPMA and Docapesca, the meeting brings together experts and decision-makers in a debate on innovation and sustainability in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. On the second day, Ana Rita Ribeiro, Project and Innovation Manager at B2E CoLAB, will participate in the panel “Valuing fish products,” from 12:10 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., where she will present essential contributions to the future of the blue bioeconomy.
B2E CoLAB’s presence at this prestigious event reflects its commitment to promoting sustainable practices and scientific innovations in the fishing, aquaculture, and processing value chain. Rita Ribeiro will bring to the debate the topic of full use of fish, a concept that is increasingly relevant to marine sustainability. This approach not only aims to reduce waste, but also to create value from by-products that are usually discarded.
The valorization of by-products such as oils, proteins, and bioactive compounds is a strategy that combines sustainability and innovation, contributing to multiple industries, from food to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. This approach demonstrates how the application of science and technology can transform waste into valuable resources, promoting a more circular and efficient economic model.
In the context of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), this event plays a crucial role in addressing the challenge of making oceans more productive and sustainable. The “Fish Industry” session, which will feature Rita Ribeiro, will be an opportunity to discuss concrete solutions and share experiences that could shape the future of the blue food sector.
With a track record of collaboration on strategic projects in the blue bioeconomy, B2E CoLAB reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to the sustainable transformation of the sector. Participation in this event not only reinforces its position as a leading entity, but also reflects its ongoing commitment to innovating and collaborating with stakeholders to develop a more productive and resilient ocean.
