B2E – CoLAB for the Blue Bioeconomy, in partnership with Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, will develop an innovative short course entitled “Circular Economy in Animal Nutrition – the use of insects in fish feed.” The 8-hour training course will take place in an e-learning format during the month of May, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and will focus on sustainability and maximizing the resources used in aquaculture.
Exploring the role of insects in converting waste into fish feed ingredients; identifying sustainable practices in the production of insects as feed ingredients in aquaculture; analyzing success stories and challenges in implementing the circular economy in aquaculture nutrition are the objectives of the course “Circular Economy in Animal Nutrition – the use of insects in fish feed.”
Promoted by the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, the training will feature Ana Rita Ribeiro, Diana Bicho, Rute Moreira, and Tyanara Franco from the B2E CoLAB team, as well as Elisabete Matos, professor at the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science, and Daniel Murta, president of the InsectERA Executive Committee. With a theoretical-practical approach, the online course will take place on May 14, 16, 27, and 29, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
With 20 places available, the target audience includes aquaculture farmers interested in adopting sustainable practices, food industry professionals looking for innovations in aquaculture nutrition, or students and researchers in the fields of aquaculture, marine biology, sustainability, animal production, veterinary medicine, agronomy, biomedical sciences, and related areas, as well as public policy managers and regulators involved in aquaculture and sustainability.
At the end of the course, assessment will be based on a project that encompasses the knowledge acquired during all modules. The course offers 1 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). Registration can be done on the Egas Moniz School of Health and Science website.
The course “Circular Economy in Animal Nutrition – the use of insects in fish feed” is part of the InsectERA Mobilizing Agenda for Business Innovation, which is part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) that brings together players from across the value chain who want to explore the potential of insects as a bioindustrial tool and bioindustrial solutions.
