Blue Wink-E 2024: Secretary of State for the Sea to attend closing session

The Secretary of State for the Sea, Lídia Bulcão, will attend the closing session of Blue Wink-E 2024: Choose Blue, Live Green, which will take place on 25 October at the Infante D. Henrique Auditorium in Matosinhos. Organised by B2E CoLAB for the Blue Bioeconomy, this event brings together experts, companies, and institutions to discuss strategies to boost marine products among consumers while promoting a more sustainable future.

The event will kick off at 9:00 am with a welcome session led by Marlos Silva, President of the B2E CoLAB Board, and Maria Coelho, the lab’s coordinator. Marta Pontes, the Councillor for Economic Activities at the Matosinhos City Council, will officially open the conference.

The first roundtable, titled “Winning the Consumer: Strategies in the Blue Bioeconomy”, will feature Renata Serradeiro (Flatlantic), Maria João Alegria (Sumol + Compal), Célia Rocha (Sense Test), and Patrícia Gonçalves (B2E CoLAB). This panel will explore how product innovation, focusing on sustainable and healthy marine ingredients, can stand out in the market, how to win over the conscious consumer who values health and product traceability, and the importance of creating a positive consumer experience. Additionally, the essential role of communication in educating and raising consumer awareness about the benefits of blue bioeconomy products will be discussed.

Following a networking break, where participants will have the chance to sample new marine products, the second roundtable, Challenges and Opportunities: Blue Bioeconomy Products in the Market”, will take place. Speakers will include Michelin-starred chef Arnal Azevedo, Pedro Silva of TMG Textiles, Leonor Almeida Garrett from Sonae MC, and Diogo Lopes of Wissi Atlantic Vegetables. This session will focus on the integration of blue bioeconomy products into various industries, such as food and textiles, exploring the opportunities these resources offer beyond the food sector and highlighting technological innovations shaping the industry. The speakers will share their experiences on how marine products can contribute to sustainability and competitiveness, addressing the barriers and challenges faced when introducing these innovations to the market.

The closing session, scheduled for 12:45 pm, will feature Secretary of State for the Sea, Lídia Bulcão, who will reaffirm Portugal’s role as a leader in the blue economy and bioeconomy, emphasising the commitment to marine resource sustainability and the growth potential of this sector within the national economy.
