July ushers in a tide of innovation! Cutting-edge sensors now spot microplastics at aquaculture sites, and aquaculture triumphantly surpasses ocean fisheries in global production. High-protein microalgae transform animal feed, while new methods supercharge fish productivity. Chlorella extracts revolutionize skincare in marine biotech, and algal proteoglycans reveal new medical horizons. Dive into these pioneering discoveries and ride the wave of science!

AQUACULTURE

Innovative sensors identify microplastics at aquaculture sites

Developed by LEITAT, a Barcelona-based research and technology organization, the sensors use photonics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to measure microscopically sized microplastics, differentiating them from other natural particles that might be present in water samples.

World aquaculture production surpasses ocean fisheries for the first time

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, aquaculture accounted for 51% of the world’s total fishery products. The FAO report includes a section on “The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture” (SOFIA), which indicates that “fish farming, mollusc farming, and algae farming represent 51% of the world total” of these products and “provide 57% of the aquatic animal products used for human consumption”.

Method for correction of fish intestinal microbiocenosis to increase their productivity

The invention relates to fish farming and can be used for feeding fish. A thin layer of fodder is sprayed with a phytobiotic additive “Probiocid-Phyto” in a dosage of 2 g/kg of fodder and ultrafine zinc particles with the size of 90 nm, obtained by an electric explosion of a conductor in an argon atmosphere, in dosage of 10 mg/kg of fodder, pre-treated with ultrasound in distilled water for 30 minutes with a frequency of 30 kHz. The result of the invention provides higher productivity and resistance to fish organisms: 1 cl, 3 dwg, 1 tbl.

LIVING MARINE RESOURCES

Collagen and cyclodextrin mixed food composition

Provided is a food composition that is full of flavor, effectively utilizes fish skin, entrails, internal bones, and the like that are generally disposed of as waste, and from which unpleasant odors distinctive of fish-derived collagen have been removed. Provided is a collagen and cyclodextrin mixed food composition that is a food composition and is capable of increasing absorption of collagen peptide into the human body by use of cyclodextrin. The collagen and cyclodextrin mixed food composition is obtained by mixing powdered collagen derived from fish and powdered cyclodextrin at a mass ratio of 8:2 to 8:7 and granulating the mixture.
